Menopause isn’t just about saying goodbye to your period – if only it was that simple! It’s a full-body shift, and your skin feels it just as much as the rest of you. That sudden tightness, the fine lines that seem deeper overnight, the redness that flares when you least expect it? You’re not imagining it.
At SAIRA, we believe women deserve straight talk, not sugar-coating. Menopause is powerful. It changes your hormones, your energy, your skin. And yet too often, it’s swept under the rug. We want you to know: you’re not alone, your symptoms are real, and there are ways to feel more comfortable in your skin.
This month, we’re breaking down exactly what’s happening to menopausal skin, plus the rituals we’ve designed to help support you.
What Happens to Skin During Menopause?
Estrogen, the hormone that’s been quietly supporting your skin for decades, takes a sharp dive during menopause. Unfortunately, the effects if this ripple across your complexion:
- Increased dryness and dehydration: skin feels parched, flaky, and tight.
- Loss of firmness and elasticity: sagging becomes more noticeable.
- More pronounced fine lines and wrinkles: collagen and elastin decline.
- Thinner, more fragile skin: your barrier is weaker, repairs take longer.
- Heightened sensitivity and redness: flare-ups feel more frequent.
- Slower repair overall: the natural healing process is less efficient.
In short? Estrogen is essential for collagen, elastin, and moisture retention. Its loss accelerates visible ageing and makes skin more reactive.

Saira’s Story
"Menopause was a turning point my skin felt thinner, more fragile, and constantly thirsty. It was a time to simplify, but also to be intentional. This ritual is designed to restore balance, rebuild resilience, and support the skin’s natural renewal, so it feels cared for and confident through the change."
When to Seek Medical Support
Skincare can soothe and support, but if your symptoms are starting to disrupt your life: your sleep, mood, work, or relationships, then it’s time to seek medical advice.
Book a GP appointment if:
- Your symptoms are interfering with daily life
- You’re under 45 with possible menopausal symptoms
- You have irregular/heavy bleeding
- You notice symptoms before age 40 (possible primary ovarian insufficiency)
Many women benefit from HRT. Large evidence reviews show it’s the most effective treatment for hot flushes and night sweats, and it also helps protect bone health. In the UK, the NHS states that for most women under 60 without high-risk factors, the benefits outweigh the risks. Your GP can help individualise what’s right for you.

That’s why we created the [Menopause Edit]: four powerful yet gentle steps to hydrate deeply, rebuild resilience, and bring back radiance as your skin adjusts to this new chapter.
